OVERVIEW EFFECT

The overview effect is a cognitive and emotional shift in awareness reported by some astronauts during spaceflight, often while viewing the Earth from outer space. Frank White, creator of the term overview effect about it: "There are no borders or boundaries on our planet except those that we create in our minds or through human behaviors. All the ideas and concepts that divide us when we are on the surface begin to fade from orbit and the moon. The result is a shift in worldview, and in identity. (...) You could say, I know that. I know we're all connected. I know our differences don't matter that much. But it's knowing it with the brain and not the heart. And so, the big, sort of, what would I call it, insight, about experiencing the overview effect is that it is an experience."
